Things to do in Can Tho
Can Tho is the largest city of the Mekong Delta, about 170 km south-west of Ho Chi Minh City: allow roughly three to four hours by road, or fly into Can Tho airport. One point to settle first: the Cai Rang floating market is here, not at My Tho, and it trades at dawn, so a late excursion from Saigon arrives after the best of it.
Sleep in town for at least one night, then take a boat from the riverfront around 5:30 to 6:00 am; a shared or private boat costs roughly 10 to 25 EUR in 2026 depending on the group and the length. By late morning the trading is thin and the heat is already climbing past 30 °C. The canals, fruit orchards and rice-noodle workshops fill the rest of a day.
Can Tho is only one corner of the delta.
