Things to do in Pu Luong

Pu Luong is a nature reserve of terraced rice valleys in the northern mountains, quieter than Sapa or Mu Cang Chai and not the same place as neighbouring Mai Chau. 5 hours by road from Hanoi, depending on traffic and the last mountain stretch. Count at least one night, because a rushed day trip spends most of its hours in a vehicle.

What you actually do is walk between villages, paddy fields and bamboo water wheels, then sleep in a homestay, typically around 10 to 30 EUR per person in 2026. There are no monuments to tick off. The terraces are green from about June and golden around September and October. In the rainy season, roughly May to September, paths turn muddy and slippery, so bring proper shoes.
