Things to do in the Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta is a region of waterways, fruit orchards and river markets south of Ho Chi Minh City, best seen from a boat. My Tho and Ben Tre lie about 70 km away, roughly two hours by road, so a day trip is feasible; Can Tho, about 170 km, and Chau Doc near the Cambodian border justify one or two nights.

Expect group day tours from around 20 to 45 EUR in 2026, with a private boat costing more. Cai Rang floating market trades at dawn and is at Can Tho, not My Tho, so it needs an overnight stay. Mui Ne and its dunes are about 200 km north-east and are not part of the delta. The delta is not a UNESCO site.

Humidity is high all year, and the wet season (May to November) brings short afternoon downpours.
